The Irresistable Nokia 6260 (Reviews)

Nokia has come up with a new handset which seems to belong to the trend setting department Nokia 6260. But this time differently, along with a flap that can be twisted or turned in all directions. The display of Nokia 6260 is perhaps long but not wide. The display facilitates to twist 180 degrees for a fully functional browse. These individualities make it somewhat different from rest of the handsets introduced by Nokia.

The Nokia 6260 weighs 130g and measures 102 x 49 x 23 mm. The volume, fold angle and rotation are 109cc, 154 degrees and 270 degrees respectively. The call management provides Advanced contacts database with support for multiple phone and email details each entry, conference call which is available almost with every mid-priced handset by Nokia, speed dialing, Logs for storing the lists of missed, received and dialed calls, automatic redial, automatic answer(that works with compatible headset or car kit).

With the work mode context, Local or remote synchronization of contacts, calendar, to-do list and notes using the already made SyncML client or Nokia suite is provided. Built-in VPN client is used to check and read emails. The user can view PowerPoint and Word attachments using the pre-installed Quickword viewers. Not concluding with this, the user is could also read and write emails with portable Wireless Keyboard enhancement, to record ideas immediately as voice memos or type them as notes. The Series 60 icon menu provides easy navigation user interface or to create own folders as well as map the applications to the particular folders.

In order to browse the user can twist the display 180 degrees as we mentioned earlier above. While in the compact mode the user can get fast and easy access to the menu, applications and browsing. In addition to it, he can even make or receive calls. The mobile XHTML browser gives rich access to internet pages. Wallet is also given for convenient online use and storage of numbers and certain passwords. There is even Audio and Video streaming.

The Nokia 6260 consists of 0.3 MP digital camera. A built-in sensor activates the integrated VGA camera while twisting the display to the side. Certain side keys allow the user to zoom in and out. The user can not only shoot short video clips but also play them on the large, bright 65,536 colors active TFT display. Also enables to show pictures in a slide show and to paste favourite shots as wallpapers in idle mode. The user can have fun viewing downloaded sports clips. Moreover provides built-in FM radio and MP3 music player.

The phone in addition to all this, contains presence enhanced contacts for controlling when and how the user desires to be contacted, Push-to-talk for convenient real-time one to one as well as group communication only by pushing a single button, instant messaging, MMS with images, videos, audio clips ans SMIL(multiside presentation) plus concatenated SMS for sending and receiving messages up to 459 characters. There is predictive text input unlike Nokia 7280.

For the user to connect, GPRS for convenient 'always on' data and browsing, HSCDS for high speed data connectivity, Pop Port connector, Nokia connectivity Adapter cable, Bluetooth wireless technology with 1.1 and lastly Infrared are all available. However the Nokia 6260 operates with Tri-Band GSM 900/1800/1900. There is an inclusion of Symbian and Java MIDP 2.0 that makes most of the existing applications usable, Pre-installed and download themes(wallpapers, colors, tones, icons), Hot swapping to change the memory card without switching off the phone, large keys for efficient scrolling, 48-chord polyphonic ring tones and Digital Rights Management with OMA forward lock for content protection.

The battery life is much more shorter than those of the other smartphones from Nokia. It is heard that it actually consumes only 155 minutes of talktime and 120 hours of standby whereas Nokia claims 240 minutes of talktime and 144 hours of standby. The screen brightness consumes much of the battery power which is one of the reasons of short battery life.

Leaving aside the poor battery life and certain software issues, the phone provides a good feedback with its outstanding screen and hot swappable memory. Everybody would go for it due to its twistable flap.
